The University of Toledo Law Review will bring together two state supreme court justices, one federal judge and three legal scholars for an exploration of professional expectations in the legal field during its annual symposium on Friday, Feb. 27.<\/p>\n

“Civility & Professionalism in a Changing Legal World” runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both virtually and in the Law Center\u2019s McQuade Law Auditorium.<\/p>\n

The 2025-26 Law Review Symposium will consist of two panels:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 \u201cThen, Now and Next: The Evolution of Lawyer Civility and Professionalism,\u201d exploring the historical roots of civility, the pressures shaping modern practice and emerging challenges for the next generation of lawyers and presented by David Grenardo of the University of St. Thomas School of Law, Laurel Rigertas of the Northern Illinois University College of Law and Nicholas Seger of the University of Dayton School of Law<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 \u201cFrom the Bench: Civility, Advocacy and Expectations in Today\u2019s Courtrooms,\u201d exploring how civility directly affects advocacy, decision-making and public trust in the judicial system and presented by Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy of the Ohio Supreme Court, Justice Elizabeth Welch of the Michigan Supreme Court and U.S. District Court Judge James Knepp for the Northern District of Ohio<\/p>\n

\u201cIn bringing together this group of scholars and members of the judiciary, the Law Review Symposium will present an honest and forward-looking discussion about what the legal profession should expect of itself in a changing world,\u201d said Edward Maksimczak, a third-year law student and symposium editor for the Toledo Law Review. \u201cI look forward to seeing scholars, lawyers, students and the public engage in this timely and important topic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Toledo Law Review, established in 1968, is a student-run scholarly publication devoted to the discussion of current legal issues. In addition to disseminating complex, timely and relevant legal analyses on a variety of topics three times each year, the Toledo Law Review organizes the annual Law Review Symposium hosted by the College of Law.<\/p>\n

In-person and virtual symposium registration for those seeking continuing legal education (CLE) credits is $120. Registration for all others is free.<\/p>\n
