Confucius Institute to host Chinese Experience Day Feb. 6

Chinese New Year is approaching and will welcome the year of snake.

2013-Year-of-the-Snake-design-2__1_To celebrate, the Confucius Institute invites UT students, faculty and staff to Chinese Experience Day Wednesday, Feb 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Trimble South Lounge.

Attendees will learn about the Chinese Spring Festival, experience Chinese calligraphy, learn to speak Chinese, and have a chance to win prizes. Traditional Chinese food will be served at noon.

“Chinese Experience Day will be a rich cultural experience,” said Dr. Minhua Wu, assistant director of the Confucius Institute. “It will be an opportunity to bridge Chinese and American culture. The Confucius Institute is committed to serving the Toledo community’s interest in learning about Chinese language and culture.”

Additional upcoming Chinese events students can participate in include:

• Taste of China: Have you always wanted to try authentic Chinese food? Students can sign up for a group meal at Wei Wei restaurant, 1202 N. Reynolds Road, Thursday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. Students pay for the cost of the meal and transportation. Reservation required; RSVP to cisp@utoledo.edu or 419.530.5268.

• Jackie Chan Movie Matinee: “Robin-B-Hood,” Friday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. in Snyder Memorial Building Room 1100.

• Spring Festival Gala, Sunday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium. For information on the event hosted by the Chinese Student and Scholar Association, contact Yu Hu at 419.705.2636.

The Confucius Institute at The University of Toledo was formed in 2008 in order to support, promote and develop Chinese Mandarin language and cultural education in the United States, particularly within the Toledo community.
