To spotlight research projects completed throughout the year, The University of Toledo Psychology Department will host its first Psychology Research Showcase Friday, April 20, from noon to 3 p.m. in University Hall Rooms 5130G and 5150F.

The showcase will feature research presentations on clinical and experimental psychology.

Undergraduates will present posters on topics including jury decision-making, opioid use, the psychology of engaging in healthy behavior, and clinical coping mechanisms.

In addition, graduate students will give five-minute data blitz presentations on medication adherence, animal-assisted forensic interviews, non-suicidal self-injury and other topics.

“We hope the event offers useful information to attendees and encourages students to become more involved in research and psychology at UT,” said Dr. Andrew Geers, professor of psychology.

There also will be information about research assistant opportunities for undergraduate students. Geers encouraged students to come out and learn more about the the possibility of conducting research prior to graduate school.

Graduate and undergraduate students feel the event will be a great experience for those interested in psychology.

“I’m excited to have the department come together as a whole to showcase all the work we have been doing,” said Christina Perez, psychology student. “Although many students present their research at conferences throughout the U.S., it’s rare for us to present to the other students in the department. I am interested in seeing what everyone has been working on in their labs.”

Students also can learn more about psychology as a career.

“For students who are new to the University and perhaps unsure about what they want to focus their attention on, this event may spark a love for psychology,” said Keith Edmonds, experimental psychology graduate student. “I am confident the event will be beneficial for students at all levels of their education.”

Toward the end of the event, cash prizes will be presented for best undergraduate and graduate presentations.

Lunch and dessert will be provided; this is an open event for all UT students.
