“I look forward to joining the UToledo community and working collaboratively with new colleagues to establish a risk management program that identifies, assesses and mitigates risk across the complex institution to support our shared goals,” Huffner said.

Huffner will lead the creation of a new enterprise risk management program at UToledo that will incorporate and leverage existing internal audit and compliance functions.

Creating the program is among the 2020-22 Key Initiatives identified by President Gregory Postel to tackle current obstacles and explore innovative ideas to prepare UToledo for the future.

“It’s critically important that we understand our risk landscape, and we put in place various mitigation efforts to ensure we are operating efficiently and achieving UToledo’s strategic goals,” said Matt Schroeder, executive vice president for finance and administration and CFO. “We are excited to have been able to attract a top expert in this field to our campus through our enhanced talent recruitment strategy in Human Resources under the leadership of John Elliott and Dr. Melissa Hurst.”

Prior to applying his expertise in higher education, Huffner was the director of legal and risk management at MRC Global, Inc., a Goldman Sachs portfolio company in Charleston, W.Va, and a senior risk management specialist for Aramark Corporation in Philadelphia, Pa.

Huffner earned his juris doctorate at Duquesne University School of Law and bachelor’s degree in business administration from Robert Morris University.
