The Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women is launching a social media campaign titled Nevertheless She Persisted Friday, April 3.

In 2017, Sen. Elizabeth Warren was silenced by Sen. Mitch McConnell, who later defended himself and said, “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” And a feminist rallying cry was born.

“Women all over the nation started using the phrase to share their stories of persistence and empowered others to do the same,” Dr. Angela Fitzpatrick, director of the Eberly Center for Women, said.

“UToledo women are resilient, and the Nevertheless She Persisted campaign wants to share their empowering stories,” Fitzpatrick added.

The Eberly Center will highlight six women affiliated with the University. Their stories showcasing their strength and resilience will be released on the center’s Twitter account and Facebook page and website starting Friday, April 3.

“We welcome our entire UToledo family to join us in advancing gender equity by sharing your story of persistence and using the hashtag #ECWePersist,” said Danielle Stamper, program manager for gender equity student initiatives at the Eberly Center.

A She Persisted photo frame is available on the Eberly Center’s Instagram; follow at @eberlycenter and share your story of persistence.

“Each time you use #ECWePersist, you will be added to a biweekly drawing for an Eberly Center for Women original Nevertheless She Persisted T-shirt,” Fitzpatrick said.
