The UT community is invited to race around campus at the seventh annual Olde Towne Rocket Race Campus 5K Run/Walk Sunday, May 3, at 10 a.m.
“It’s a fun event for students at the end of the year each year,” said Steve Hardy, assistant director of operations and marketing at the UT Office of Recreation. “We’d like to make it into a tradition on campus.”
Proceeds from the race benefit Camp Courageous and UT Student Development. Camp Courageous offers outdoor recreational activities to children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The race starts and ends at the UT track. All runners will get a T-shirt and lunch provided by Subway. The race costs $20 with pre-registration or $25 at the door. Register here.
Race participants also can support the American Heart Association at the event. Rocket Wellness will have a table with information about the Toledo Heart Walk. UT Health CEO Dave Morlock is chair of this year’s Heart Walk, which will take place Saturday, May 30.
“Mr. Morlock really wants there to be a student presence at the Heart Walk; however, due to the walk being at the end of the month when classes are over, a lot of students will not be able to come,” said Jocelyn Szymanski, wellness coordinator. “So we’ve collaborated with the rec center to educate students about being heart healthy and give them a way to show their support for the Heart Walk.”
Students can purchase a UT Health 2015 Heart Walk T-shirt for $10 or a heart that will be displayed at the rec center for $2. Proceeds will go to the American Heart Association.
Rocket Wellness also is offering a special for students involved in Greek life. If students wear their letters to the race and make a $10 donation, they will receive a Heart Walk T-shirt and ear buds.
The Rocket Race will kick off the Student Rec Center’s Relaxation Week that runs until Wednesday, May 6. Activities include zumba, yoga, study sessions and more. For more information, visit utoledo.edu/studentaffairs/rec.
