The College of Engineering is hosting a five-day in-person camp Monday, June 12, through Friday, June 16, for high school students who wish to learn more about the world of cybersecurity from faculty experts.

Created and led by Dr. Ahmad Javaid, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science, the camp will also feature interaction with faculty and students from UToledo, Purdue University Northwest and Fairfield University.

“Last year’s camp was such a success,” Javaid said. “We are only able to accommodate 30 registrants, so each student gets a lot of individual attention.

“This summer camp is designed to provide high school students with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity-related topics such as internet security, web security, network security and cryptography,” he added. “The camp aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves from today’s cyber threats. Students will learn about the different types of cyber threats, including malware and phishing attacks, and will also learn the best practices for securing digital devices and online accounts. It will also give them a better understanding of cybersecurity careers and whether this field might fit them.”

Camp registration is now open and is first come, first served, with limited space remaining. The camp registration is free, and lunch and parking are provided.

For more information or to register, fill out the form on the camp’s website. For questions, email ahmad.javaid@utoledo.edu
