Coding is a rapidly growing field, with computer programming jobs in high demand across virtually every industry and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting that employment for this field will grow up to 22% by 2030.
To help meet the demand for these skilled, high-paying jobs, The University of Toledo College of Engineering is partnering with Tech Corps, an Ohio-based nonprofit organization, Cleveland Cliffs and the General Motors Community Development Fund to host two free summer camps for area students to provide coding and technological skills training to the next generation of STEM professionals.
Both camps will take place in computer engineering laboratories throughout Nitschke Hall on UToledo Main Campus and are limited to 20 participants each. Registration in advance is required.
During the first camp, students in 5th, 6th and 7th grades from the Toledo area will work with computer science engineers to develop games using two proprietary coding platforms at an introductory level from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22. To register, visit the 2022 Techie Camp Registration Survey.
The second camp, designed specifically for girls attending high school in the Toledo area, is the 4th Annual High School Girls Tech Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29. It’s built to provide a more intermediate understanding of coding by utilizing Twine to develop apps and programs. Register for the High School Girls Tech Camp by completing the 2022 High School Tech Camp Registration Survey.
