A new video board and sound system should be installed in the Glass Bowl in time for the season opener Saturday, Aug. 30.

Work on the project is under way, and UT Vice President and Athletic Director Mike O’Brien said he expects that the additions will be ready in time for the Rockets’ season opener vs. New Hampshire Saturday, Aug. 30.

The new video board will be four times larger than the current screen and will be attached to the Larimer Athletic Complex on the north end of the field. The old board will be moved to the south end zone, making UT the only school in the Mid-American Conference with video boards on either end of its campus football stadium.

“The new video board and sound system will greatly enhance the game-day experience for our fans,” O’Brien said. “They will really enjoy the larger screen size of our video board, as well as the improved sound quality that will make the music and our public address system clearer and more resonant.

“In addition, by having two video boards, our fans will be able to see replays and other video content from any angle in the stadium. These improvements are another way we are striving to make the Glass Bowl the best possible venue for our fans to enjoy first-class college football,” he said.

According to Tim Warga, UT assistant athletic director for operations and events, the new video board will be approximately 50 feet wide and 30 feet high, making it 1,500 square feet in total size (compared to old board’s dimensions of 25 feet by 14 feet for 350 square feet). The board will feature a virtual scoreboard with full scoring and timing capabilities, as well as virtual advertising. The sound system will be part of the new video board and will offer improved quality and stadium coverage.

The old video board will be moved to the south end zone, adjacent to the south scoreboard.

Warga added that installation crews are working rapidly with the goal of having the new video board ready for the home opener Aug. 30.

When completed, the new video board and sound system will be a perfect complement to the recently completed renovations of the Larimer Athletic Complex. Larimer underwent a $5.5 million facelift that included updates to the academic center, the strength and conditioning room, the locker room and meeting rooms.
