Award-winning poet and photographer Marcus Jackson, a Toledo native and UToledo alumnus, will read from his latest work, “Love’s Austere and Lonely Offices,” on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Carlson Library Room 1005.

UToledo alumnus Marcus Jackson, an award-winning poet and photographer.
The book’s title comes from a line in Robert Hayden’s celebrated poem “Those Winter Sundays.” In it, Jackson combines his street photography with poetry to explore the social isolation, protests and survival that marked Black experience and existence during the turbulent years of 2020 and 2021.
Jackson’s poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine, among other publications. His debut full-length collection, “Neighborhood Register,” was released in 2011, followed by “Pardon My Heart” in 2018.
After earning a bachelor’s degree from UToledo, Jackson continued his poetry studies in New York University’s graduate creative writing program and as a Cave Canem fellow.
