The University of Toledo Medical Center is getting a new roof.
Construction is slated to begin Monday, June 11, and is expected to last four weeks, but a waterproofing project on the building being done at the same time could take three months. The renovation projects should not affect normal business operations.
The new roof and insulation will increase the heating and cooling efficiency of the building and is expected to last for 30 years. The “Built-Up-Roof” system being installed will be composed of several waterproof layers made of asphalt.
In addition, the building itself will be waterproofed beginning June 11 to prevent water from entering the concrete and causing damage as it freezes and thaws throughout the year. The waterproofing materials will not cause any change in the color or aesthetic appeal of the building.
Throughout these renovations, the hospital advises there will be an odor due to the asphalt of the roof and the materials used for waterproofing. While this may be unpleasant at times, it is not harmful.
Certain areas of the sidewalk near the building may be inaccessible at times in areas undergoing renovation. The hospital staff asks for cooperation in observing caution barriers for your safety.
