The medical community is invited to The University of Toledo’s 2015 Wound Care and Hyperbaric Symposium Thursday, Nov. 12.

The symposium will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kalahari Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio,

Topics of the event will include wound regulations in nursing facilities, vascular intervention in difficult leg wounds, hyperbaric oxygen therapy updates, and new advances in topical therapy, such as cellular and tissue-based products and negative pressure wound therapy.

The goal of the symposium is to provide the latest information about wound care and hyperbaric therapy to those in the health field — physicians, nurses, residents, medical students and other health professionals.

“It is the most comprehensive wound care event in the region that can be applied to any health field,” said Karen Bauer, UT wound care nurse practitioner. “Not to mention, it’s a lot of fun.”

Among the lineup of nationally recognized speakers, Bauer will be joined by three UT Health physicians who will share their expertise during the event: Dr. Claudiu Georgescu, UT assistant professor of medicine and medical director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program; Dr. Munier Nazzal, UT professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery; and Dr. Joseph Lach, UT assistant professor of surgery and general surgeon.

The cost of the program is $85, with a lower rate offered to students and for large groups. The price includes breakfast, lunch and networking. Participants also have the opportunity to receive up to 7.25 American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award credits. In addition, attendees can receive a discount on hotel rooms at the Kalahari Resort.

Those interested in attending the symposium can register online at nwooa.org or at the door until 4 p.m. the day of the program.
