The first Dialogues on Diversity and Inclusion campus discussion series will kick off with “Real Talk: Your Relationships With the Police” Tuesday, Sept. 13.
A panel of University leaders will discuss national events and how they affect the community from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium.
The free, public series will focus on contemporary issues and campus perspective with monthly dialogues taking place during fall and spring semesters.
Light refreshments will be served, and attendees are encouraged to talk openly about diversity with their peers, according to Dr. Willie McKether, vice president for diversity and inclusion.
McKether started the dialogues in response to community forums and the diversity survey conducted last spring.
“I want these forums to provide all students on campus a voice and the participants walk away with a greater understanding of issues from different perspectives,” he said.
Other topics that will be discussed in the series will be determined largely by what students think are critical issues, according to McKether.
Future dialogues for fall semester are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6.
