After a year when panic buying exacerbated issues with the distribution of key supplies including toilet paper, the coronavirus pandemic will be a major focus of the 8th Global Supply Chain Management Conference hosted by The University of Toledo College of Business and Innovation on Dec. 3-6 and Dec. 10-13.
During the 2020 virtual conference, which is titled “Dynamic Transformation in the Global Business Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges,” academic researchers and business leaders around the world will address the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the distribution of goods, services and information, highlight innovative solutions and share the latest research in supply chain management with examples from agriculture, automotive, energy, healthcare and other industries.
Dr. Paul Hong, Distinguished University Professor of global supply chain management at UToledo, co-founded the Global Supply Chain Management Conference.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in global supply chain management is growing,” said Dr. Paul Hong, Distinguished University Professor of global supply chain management at UToledo. “Leaders from regional manufacturing companies, nonprofit organizations and service organizations will give presentations about pandemic-related impacts and innovative solutions developed to overcome business challenges brought on by the COVID-19 virus.”
In 2007, Hong and several other faculty members in the UToledo College of Business and Innovation, Dr. Subba Rao, Dr. Mark Vonderembse and T.S. Ragunathan, founded the event.
Since then, the conference has been held in locations around the world, including Pusan National University in Korea, PSG Institute of Management in India, Instituto de Empresa in Spain, University of Tokyo in Japan, Michigan State University and Zhejiang University in China.
At the 2020 virtual event, scholars from North America, Europe, Japan, Korea, China, India, Lebanon, Indonesia and Brazil will participate and present papers that address key issues in the global supply chain and the overlapping fields of information systems, business analytics and technology management.
Editors of seven academic journals that cover operations, supply chain and IT/business analytics will give keynote addresses.
Industry roundtable panelists will address crucial issues regarding shifts in today’s business environment, such as leadership agility, adaptive strategic business planning, logistics realignment, disaster relief, cybersecurity, financial survival, export and import dynamics, talent acquisition and creating organization cultures centered on innovation.
