Employees at The University of Toledo who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are no longer required to quarantine if exposed to the virus.
All individuals must continue wearing face coverings while on campus.
The new guidance is based on updated recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department for asymptomatic individuals who have been exposed after they are fully vaccinated, which is two weeks after completing the two-dose series of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Updated CDC quarantine guidelines also do not require individuals who have recovered from a laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the previous 90 days to quarantine after exposure to the virus.
All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, should monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms for 14 days following an exposure. Anyone who develops symptoms should isolate themselves from others and contact their healthcare provider.
At the recommendation of the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, the University continues to follow the primary CDC guidelines that unvaccinated individuals who have come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should quarantine for 14 days before returning to work or classroom activities.
Individuals who have received a single dose in a two-dose series, or who are less than two weeks out from receiving their final dose, also should quarantine for 14 days following a confirmed exposure to COVID-19.
Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 should self-isolate for at least 10 days, per CDC guidelines.
In line with orders from the Ohio Department of Health, the University will continue to require individuals to wear a mask while on campus, unless they are eating or alone in a private office.
The University also is encouraging vaccinated faculty, staff and students to continue to participate in the weekly random COVID-19 surveillance testing if they are selected.
Participation in surveillance testing remains required for all residential students, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated.
