A new space in University Hall is ready to connect The University of Toledo with members of the community interested in engaging more closely with the institution.
The Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships office, located in Room 4580 on the fourth floor of University Hall, will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.
“My intention is for this office to be a resource for individuals in the community and my colleagues across campus to make connections that benefit both the University and our region,” said Valerie Simmons-Walston, special assistant to the president for community engagement and strategic partnerships.
The office space houses Simmons-Walston and has a small conference room available to help facilitate those connections.
“We’re fortunate to have so many people at UToledo who are passionate about serving our community and I’m honored to be in a position to help strengthen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration,” Simmons-Walston said.
UToledo President Gregory Postel launched an enhanced community engagement effort this summer when he named Simmons-Walston to the special assistant role effective July 1.
The ribbon-cutting event will include remarks from Postel, Simmons-Walston and Dr. Monica Holiday-Goodman, a professor of pharmacy practice who serves as the faculty liaison on community engagement efforts.
A number of community partners also will join the celebration including representatives from the United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo and Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
