Employees at The University of Toledo are now covered by the Medical Mutual of Ohio medical plan.

The University’s partnership with the new medical insurance provider was announced in August and went into effect Jan. 1.

Member ID cards have been mailed to homes and employees are encouraged to register online for Medical Mutual’s My Health Plan where they can track their claims, print ID cards, find doctors and view additional wellness resources.

Employees with adult children on their health plan, those age 18 and older, received additional ID cards for each adult covered.

Through Medical Mutual, UToledo employees have access to the Medical Mutual SuperMed network of physicians and hospitals in Ohio and the Cigna network outside of Ohio.

The University of Toledo Medical Center and University of Toledo Physicians providers remain Tier 1 providers with the lowest co-insurance, co-pay and other out-of-pocket expenses. And now with Medical Mutual’s statewide network, more doctors and hospitals in Ohio are covered including ProMedica, Mercy and McLaren healthcare providers.

“This move to Medical Mutual allowed us to keep premiums from increasing another year and it provided a much larger network of doctors and hospitals,” said Mark Bercheni, senior director for total rewards.

The new Medical Mutual member ID cards also include your CerpassRx member information for prescription drug coverage. Employees should discard their previous medical and prescription insurance cards.

UToledo has approximately 10,000 individuals covered under its health insurance plan through employees and their dependents. The contract with Medical Mutual of Ohio is for three years, and also includes increased employee wellness programs.

Additional resources for employees are available on the Human Resources’ UToledo Benefits webpage.
