A UToledo Press book published last year chronicling the 150-year-history of The University Toledo received a Local History Publication Award from Bowling Green State University’s Center for Archival Collections.
“An Institution for the Promoting of Knowledge: The University of Toledo at 150,” written by Barbara Floyd, former university archivist, won in the Book Category Professional Division.
“Barbara is one of our region’s most talented scholars. In addition to being an accomplished author, her life-long connection with UToledo made her the perfect person to write this book,” said Yarko Kuk, managing editor of UToledo Press, which is a division of University Libraries. “The book is a thorough examination of UToledo’s fascinating history, and I am thrilled it garnered this well-deserved accolade.”
Floyd will receive a check for $300 plus a plaque and has been invited to discuss her book at BGSU this fall.
“It was an honor to be asked by The University of Toledo Press to write the 150th anniversary history of the institution,” Floyd said. “It is wonderful to be recognized by my peers for the effort, and I hope the book continues to be a useful source of information and historical context about the university in the future. My thanks to Yarko Kuk for his work on editing and promoting the book.”
UToledo Press has won several other Local History Publication Awards from BGSU, including a trio of books published in 2021.
Joseph Boggs won the Academic Scholar Division award for “Prohibition’s Proving Ground: Cops, Cars, & Rumrunners in the Toledo-Detroit-Windsor Corridor”; and Tedd Long and Judy Szor won the Independent Scholar Division award for “Forgotten Visitors: Northwest Ohio’s Notable Guests” and “Sam Szor: Toledo’s Mr. Music,” respectively.
