4 on Men’s Golf Named GCAA All-America Scholars

Toledo men’s golfers Barend Botha, NJ Botha, Jamie Tofte Nielsen and Palmer Yenrick were named 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America recently announced. The Rockets’ four honorees are tied for most in the Mid-American Conference.

All four Rockets possess a 3.6 grade point average or higher with NJ Botha leading the way with a 3.879 GPA in accounting. He is followed by Yenrick’s 3.767 mark in finance, Nielsen’s 3.678 GPA in management and Barend Botha’s 3.623 figure in marketing.

Yenrick ranked second on the team with a career-low 73.3 average, followed by NJ Botha with a career-best 73.7 mark and Nielsen with a 73.8 average.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.

In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade point average of 3.2. A recipient also must be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
