Paintings depicting Toledo Scale senior employees in various aspects of scale production is one of three exhibits in the Carl Joseph Galleries located on the fifth floor of Carlson Library.
Titled “Paintings of Master Craftsmen” and organized by Canaday Center for Special Collections, this exhibit of 14 paintings is on display now through the end of the year.
The artwork is by Georges LaChance, who was commissioned by Hubert D. Bennett, Toledo Scale’s second president, to create the paintings in 1928 and 1929 to help foster employee pride.
The paintings remained on display in Toledo Scale’s Telegraph Road plant until 1976 and is now part of the Canaday Center for Special Collections.
Other exhibits on display in the Carl Joseph Galleries:
• Toledo Glass Industry Advertisements of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Advertising collateral from the many glass companies that called Toledo home: Owens-Illinois and Libbey-Owens-Ford.
• James Session’s “Jeep at War” series. An accomplished watercolorist known for his military scenes, Sessions developed a series of 23 post-World War II paintings for a Willys-Overland advertising campaign, three of which are included in this exhibit.

A collection of the posters from the University Department of Music and Theatre, Film and Dance; the University Department of Theatre and Film; the University Department of Theatre; the Experimental Theatre; and Summerstage from the 1960s through the 1980s.
