Sydney Dunnom and Noah Brown, both third-year doctor of pharmacy students in The University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, volunteered at a USA Boxing vaccine awareness event this summer.
Dunnom and Brown were among five students who took part in the effort, which was coordinated by USA Boxing and the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists.
The event, held in late July during the USA Boxing National Women’s Championship at the Glass City Center in downtown Toledo, was part of the nationwide “Coaching You Up” campaign, which offers vaccine education and free vaccine clinics during local, regional and national USA Boxing-sanctioned events.
“Our pharmacy students regularly look for opportunities to serve the needs of our community, even during summer break,” said Dr. Monica Holiday-Goodman, associate dean of student affairs and diversity and inclusion, and a professor of pharmacy practice in the UToledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. “Not only do these kinds of outreach events benefit our community but they also provide students a chance to share their knowledge and put what they’re learning into practice.”
Also taking part in the July event were third-year Pharm.D. student Emmanuella Agidigbo and second-year students Payton Hummel and Carmel Tapawan.
