Bedford High School students can soon begin earning college credit through The University of Toledo under a first-of-its-kind arrangement.
Dr. Gregory Postel, president of UToledo, and Lisa McCaig, president of the Bedford Board of Education, signed an affiliation agreement on Tuesday, Dec. 5, that establishes a path for students to earn college credit hours while still in high school, similar to the College Credit Plus program in Ohio.
Courses will be taught by UToledo instructors or Bedford instructors who are approved by and working in close collaboration with their counterparts at UToledo. Courses can be taught at the University, at the high school or asynchronously online, according to the agreement.
UToledo hosts numerous comparable arrangements with schools in Ohio, under the state College Credit Plus program. This is UToledo’s the first such arrangement with a school system in Michigan.
Bedford High School students can take UToledo courses beginning in fall 2024.
