Two University of Toledo professors are among the world’s most influential researchers, according to the data analytics firm Clarivate.

The distinction recognizes researchers who have authored multiple papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year during the past decade, as tracked in Clarivate’s Web of Science citation index. Qualitative analysis and expert judgment are also factors.

Clarivate recognized 6,849 scientists and social scientists around the world in 2023.

Yan, whose research focus is perovskite solar cells, has been named to the list each year since 2019. Elhai, who studies cyberpsychology and internet addictions, has been included since 2021.

“The University of Toledo is fortunate to have Dr. Yan and Dr. Elhai, whose cutting-edge research is advancing their respective fields and transforming our world beyond the halls of academia,” said Dr. Constance Schall, interim vice president for research. “It’s gratifying to see their commitment, expertise and leadership recognized in the distinction of Highly Cited Researcher.”
