The College of Engineering is hosting UToledo’s Spring 2024 Engineering Career Expo Thursday, Feb. 29, in Savage Arena.
More than 150 companies and approximately 700 students and alumni from the College of Engineering are expected to attend the networking and hiring event, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon.
Companies scheduled to participate include Dana Inc., Honda, Whirlpool, First Solar, Marathon Petroleum Corp., Matrix Technologies Inc., Verdantas, Owens Corning, Toledo Refining Company, Northstar BlueScope, Lincoln Electric, Libbey Inc., PCC Airfoils LLC, Plastic Technologies Inc., NSG/Pilkington North America, Inc., Rudolph Libbe/GEM Inc., SSOE Group, State of Ohio Department of Natural Resources, USG and many others.
“The job outlook for engineering students in The University of Toledo College of Engineering continues to be bright,” said Rhonda Moore, associate co-op director in The Shah Center for Engineering Career Development. “The University of Toledo College of Engineering’s undergraduate paid co-op program is one of only eight integrated engineering co-op programs in the country. Our students gain one full year of professional engineering experience before they graduate and possess the competencies and confidence to begin full-time employment upon graduation.”
The college hosts semiannual career expos to give students the opportunity to network with potential employers.
“I value students who have diverse perspectives and can advocate for themselves and I am always impressed by the talent that The University of Toledo offers,” said Rochelle Robinson, early career recruiter at Owens Corning. “The co-op program is unique and helps students develop into the engineers they aspire to be. They also learn to understand and pursue their career goals. From an employer’s point of view, UToledo students are well-prepared and mature, regardless of their academic classification. The co-op program integrated into their curriculum gives them an edge over others. Owens Corning also interacts with Rocket engineers in other ways. Later this month we’ll be joining the Mechanical Engineering Senior Design class and we’re also hosting the Career Expo Crash Course with the University of Toledo Engineering Council (UTEC) student organization.”
Evan Kitchell, engineering and quality manager at United States Gypsum Co., added: “The University of Toledo has done a great job preparing students to enter the engineering work force. Over the past few years USG has noticed how well prepared UToledo students are and decided to invest more time and money into recruiting their students, which is why we decided to sponsor the water bottles at the career expo this semester. Whether we are recruiting for a co-op, intern or full-time engineer, we have seen nothing but professional, hard-working, capable engineers that strive to make our company better every day.”
