David Young, director of Toledo Excel and Special Projects, was recently honored during Black History Month by the Lucas County Board of Commissioners for his significant contributions to the city of Toledo.
“I was greatly honored to receive this recognition from the Lucas County Board of Commissioners. At a time that there are nationwide efforts to erase Black history from classrooms, and eliminate diversity equity and inclusion initiatives, it is gratifying to know that our commissioners still see the value in Black history, and the recognition of both past and present leaders. I am humbled to be included in that conversation.”

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners gives this honor annually during Black History Month.
This year, Young was nominated by commissioner Anita Lopez, a UToledo alumna. He was recognized alongside Powell’s Beauty Supply, a long-standing business in the Black community, and the Young Men of Excellence Program, represented by the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Boys.
