The University of Toledo President Gregory Postel has accepted an opportunity at the University of Cincinnati as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine.
Aligned with his contract that runs through June 30, 2025, Postel provided a six month notice to the UToledo Board of Trustees and expressed his commitment to assisting with a leadership transition.
“I will always be proud to be a Rocket, but I am excited for this new opportunity to focus my energies on the healthcare operations side of the important work we do,” Postel said. “Thank you for welcoming me to Rocket Nation and making it so difficult to leave. It has been my honor to lead this great institution.”
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Dr. Postel for his leadership during the past four years and wish him all the best in his new opportunity,” said Will Lucas, chair of the UToledo Board of Trustees. “The future of The University of Toledo is strong, and we are committed to a leadership transition that maintains our positive momentum and positions UToledo for success.”
Under Postel’s leadership UToledo navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, created the UToledo Reimagined strategic plan, received reaffirmation of Higher Learning Commission accreditation, and strengthened the finances and operations of the University of Toledo Medical Center and created UToledo Health.
“We achieved these successes in a challenging time for higher education and I am confident that UToledo will continue to turn these challenges into opportunities and serve our community with distinction well into the future,” Postel said.
Postel became UToledo’s 18th president on March 2, 2021 after serving as interim president since July 6, 2020.
Postel is the former interim president and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Louisville. Prior to joining UToledo, he served as the senior client partner representing healthcare services and higher education at Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm. He has more than 25 years of experience with academic medical center and university operations, governance, clinical care, teaching and the support of research.
