The University of Toledo Medical Center will host a celebration of cancer survivors on Monday, June 24.

UTMC’s Cancer Survivorship Celebration, which coincides with National Cancer Survivors Month, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center on UToledo’s Health Science Campus.

“This is an opportunity for us to thank our patients for choosing us to be their provider of care, to celebrate their success and to provide strength and hope to those actively going through treatment,” said Chris Kosinski, director of the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. “Wherever our patients are in their journey, we want them to know they’re not alone.”

The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, desserts, music, informational displays, a photo booth and comments from cancer survivors and UTMC providers.

All current and past cancer patients, as well as their supporters and loved ones, are invited to attend.

“We want our patients and their guests to come out, share in some fellowship, have a good time and see the support that they have, both from the community and us here at UTMC,” Kosinski said.

David Snyder, who is 14 months in remission after receiving extensive treatment for stage 4 kidney cancer, will be this year’s featured speaker. Dr. Danae Hamouda, a medical oncologist and associate professor of medicine at UToledo, also will deliver remarks.

The Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center offers comprehensive, personalized care for cancer of any type or stage, including the latest personalized therapies, genetic counseling and access to clinical trials. Patients also have access to a full complement of support services.

“Cancer care continues to advance, with new screening methods allowing for earlier diagnosis and new treatment options contributing to improved survival rates,” Hamouda said. “Cancer is life-changing, but there is reason for hope.”

The event is free, though reservations are requested by Thursday, June 20. To register, individuals can call 419.383.5243 or email renee.schick@utoledo.edu.
