Rocket Welcome Weekend Kicks Off Aug. 22

The University of Toledo celebrates our students with a full slate of on-campus events and activities scheduled Thursday, Aug. 22, through Sunday, Aug. 25, for the annual Rocket Welcome Weekend.

With the start of fall semester on Monday, Aug. 26, new and returning students will begin moving into their residence halls on Thursday, Aug. 22, and Friday, Aug. 23.

The annual Rocky’s Welcome, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Friday at Savage Arena, is an energetic introduction for first-year freshmen, transfer and adult students to key faculty, staff and student leaders, as well as campus traditions and what it means to be a Rocket.

Interim President Matt Schroeder will be lending a hand during move-in at Parks Tower from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, and from 7 to 10 p.m. Rockets can relax at the bonfire at the Flatlands and listen to music, play yard games and make s’mores.

Events on Friday, Aug. 23, include the class of 2028 barbecue from noon to 1 p.m. on the Flatlands and the annual Rocky’s Welcome from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at Savage Arena — an energetic introduction for first-year freshmen, transfer and adult students to key faculty, staff and student leaders, as well as campus traditions and what it means to be a Rocket. And for all UToledo students, there is the CAP Carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carter Field featuring games, rides and food, and Night at the Rec from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.

Activities on Saturday, Aug. 24, begin with the Class of 2028 Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. at the Flatlands and conclude with Flicks on the Field from 8 to 10 p.m. at Glass Bowl Stadium.

Friday, Aug. 23:

Academic Adventure – various Main Campus locations, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. An opportunity for incoming students to engage with their college before the start of the academic year.

Commuter Student Gathering – Centennial Mall, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Incoming commuter students can meet other students living off campus and participate in crafts.

Residential Student Gathering – the Flatlands, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Students living on campus can meet other students living off campus and participate in crafts.

Class of 2028 group photo – Glass Bowl Stadium, from 3 to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 24:

Rocky and Rocksy’s Meet Up – Health Education Center, from 1 to 3 p.m. A fun and interactive event filled with icebreakers and conversation where new students can learn more about their peers.

 Sunday, Aug. 25

Jam Session – Centennial Mall Steps, from 6 to 9 p.m. An annual event hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council where strolls are performed by the Divine 9 fraternity and sororities.

Monday, Aug. 26:

Sundaes on a Monday – Thompson Student Union/Centennial Mall, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. An annual treat for all Rockets.

Wednesday, Aug. 28:

Campus Involvement Fair – Centennial Mall, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. An annual treat for all Rockets. An opportunity for students to explore what UToledo and the city of Toledo have to offer, the annual event will include sign-ups for various community organizations, performances from student groups, music from WXUT and food trucks.

Saturday, Aug. 31:

Rockets to the Point – at Cedar Point, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Join the Office of Student Engagement on a day trip to the popular amusement park. For more information and to RSVP, visit the Rockets to the Point Invonet webpage.
