Business Professor Honored for Advancing Women in Leadership

Dr. Margaret “Miggy” Hopkins, a recently retired professor of management at The University of Toledo’s John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, was honored earlier this month with the 2024 Academy of Management Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division Award for Advancing Women in Leadership.

Hopkins was celebrated at the 84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management from Aug. 9-13 in Chicago.

“Dr. Hopkins’ dedication to advancing women in leadership, coupled with her outstanding research and teaching, has profoundly impacted our community,” said Dr. Anne L. Balazs, dean of the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation.

“Her recognition by the Academy of Management Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Division is a testament to her unwavering commitment to gender equity and excellence in leadership.”

This prestigious lifetime achievement award recognizes her exemplary body of work in the field of leadership and her unwavering commitment to promoting gender equity.

Since joining UToledo in 2005, Hopkins has been a cornerstone of the Neff College of Business and Innovation, teaching leadership and management courses at the executive MBA, MBA and upper-undergraduate levels.

Her research interests include leadership development, gender and leadership, executive coaching and emotional intelligence, and her contributions to these fields have been internationally recognized. She also has received numerous teaching and service awards from The University of Toledo.

Hopkins announced her retirement from full-time teaching at the Neff College of Business and Innovation following the 2023-24 academic year.
