UToledo employees and students who use MyChart to access their UToledo Health records can expect an added layer of security beginning Tuesday, March 4, as the health system implements two-factor authentication to the login process. Two-factor authentication is a security protocol that provides an additional layer of login protection for patients’ personal healthcare information.

When UToledo Health patients log in to MyChart for the first time on or after March 4, they will be prompted to enter a system generated passcode after entering their username and password. The passcode will be sent to the email associated with the MyChart account and must be used to complete the login.

Here are some tips to successfully navigate this new login security protocol:

•  Verify your email address in advance of March 4. From the main menu of MyChart, go to the “Personal Information” page and verify your email address under “Contact Information.”

•  Do not close the MyChart webpage while waiting for the login code to deliver to your email. Open a new browser tab if using the same browser to access your email. Be patient as the email message delivery times can vary.

•  If you do not see your passcode in your inbox, check your spam folder.

•  Ensure that noreply@utoledo.edu is on your allowed email list.

•  If you are using the MyChart mobile app, keep the app open while accessing your email in a different application.

•  You will need to request a new code if you mistakenly close MyChart.

Two-factor authentication is required upon login of each device effective Tuesday, March 4; however, patients may select the checkbox labeled “Skip this step next time” to remember their device for one year. During this time, they will not be required to revalidate their device with a two-factor authentication login code.
