The University of Toledo Medical Center experienced a brief power outage this morning around 1 a.m. after an electrical fault occurred during planned maintenance.
The electrical fault activated the hospital’s sprinkler system on the top floor, which caused some minor water damage in the hospital. The damage is not significant or extensive.
The hospital’s backup generators came online within seconds. There was no disruption to patient care as a result of the outage. Regular power was restored shortly after 7 a.m.
As a precaution, UTMC has canceled surgeries and cardiac procedures for the day. All UTMC clinics remain open, and the majority of the hospital’s outpatient services are unaffected. Patients whose appointments were affected have been notified.
UTMC’s Emergency Department remains open.
