Five runners recognized with women’s cross country academic all-MAC honors

Five Toledo women’s cross country runners have been selected to the 2013 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.

thumb-rocket-color-logoJuniors Mackenzie Chojnacky, Megan Gaysunas, Brooke Tullis, Liz Weiler and Megan Wright each earned the recognition for their efforts inside and outside the classroom.

The Rockets and Ohio led the league with five runners appearing on the list.

Chojnacky finished 14th at the MAC Championship, earning her second-team all-league honors. She also placed 52nd of 227 runners at the NCAA Regional meet. Chojnacky competes on the UT indoor and outdoor track team and has a cumulative 3.52 grade-point average in exercise science.

Gaysunas was a top-four finisher for the Rockets in five different meets, including an 11th-place finish overall at the MAC Championship. Gaysunas holds a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average in marketing, and is a part of the UT indoor and outdoor track team.

Tullis was the Rockets’ top performer in 2013, leading UT in five different races, including a fourth-place finish at the MAC Championship. A first-team All-MAC runner for the second consecutive year, she placed 27th of 227 runners at the NCAA Regionals. Tullis has accumulated a 3.40 grade-point average in nursing and also competes on the UT indoor and outdoor track team.

Weiler finished 13th at the MAC Championship, earning second-team all-conference honors. It was the second straight year she made an All-MAC team after a first-team all-conference selection in 2012. Weiler is competing with the UT indoor and outdoor track team and holds a 3.57 grade-point average in marketing and sales.

Wright also was a first-team all-conference performer for the Rockets, placing sixth at the MAC Championship. It is her second straight Academic All-MAC selection after earning the honor in 2012 as well. Wright owns a 3.42 grade-point average in exercise science and is a part of the UT indoor and outdoor track team.

The Rockets finished second behind Miami at the MAC Championship in November and placed eighth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship.
