Winners Announced in Three Minute Thesis Final Competition

The College of Graduate Studies announced the results of its sixth annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Final Competition from last year.

Emma Elizabeth Sabu Kattuman, a Ph.D. student in physiology and pharmacology in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, won first place; Upasana Shrestha, a Ph.D. student in medical microbiology and immunology in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, won runner-up; and Md Zubayer Hossain Saad, a Ph.D. student in cell and molecular biology in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, won honorable mention. There were nine finalists in the 3MT competition.

The trio was recognized and celebrated at the Graduate Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and Kattuman is eligible to go on to compete during the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 80th annual meeting April 3-5 in St. Louis.

The 3MT is an exercise that develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and challenges the research student’s capacity to effectively explain their research in only three minutes in a language appropriate to an intelligent, but non-specialist audience.

Graduate students in good standing in the thesis and dissertation-writing stage of their studies were eligible to compete.

The 2024 final competition will take place on Main Campus on Thursday, Nov. 21.
