The University of Toledo’s new director of Title IX and compliance has years of experience in law enforcement, Title IX and higher education.
Michelle McDevitt joined UToledo in 2020 as an investigator in the Title IX office after spending nearly a decade at Lourdes University, where she was director of public safety and Title IX coordinator.

McDevitt moved up the ranks in the Title IX Office at UToledo to become the associate director and senior deputy Title IX coordinator prior to being named interim director of the Title IX Office late last year.
She was selected as the permanent Title IX director earlier this month.
“Michelle has a positive attitude and is an excellent example of what dedication and hard work can achieve,” said Dr. J. Lee Johnson, executive vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. “Her leadership and expertise will help to ensure that we continue to foster a safe, inclusive environment for all at UToledo, and I’m grateful to have her on our team.”
McDevitt, who has spent her life in the Toledo area, holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Lourdes University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in higher education from UToledo.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead Title IX at UToledo,” she said. “I really love the higher ed environment and I’ve had great leaders here who have helped me to grow in my career. I look forward to partnering with our campus community in this new position.”
UToledo’s Title IX Office ensures compliance with federal law providing education and prevention programming, investigating reports of sexual misconduct, implementing supportive measures when necessary and working to remedy the effects of sexual misconduct.
