Rockets Announce 2023 Football Opponents

The University of Toledo announced its opponents for the 2023 football schedule today with a slate that includes four non-conference games and eight Mid-American Conference contests on dates that will be announced later next month.

The defending MAC champion Rockets open their season on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Illinois before hosting two of its six home contests. The Rockets’ home opener is on Saturday, Sept. 9, vs. Texas Southern, followed by a matchup in the Glass Bowl vs. San Jose State on Saturday, Sept. 16. Illinois (ReliaQuest Bowl) and San Jose State (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) both played in bowl games in 2022.

For MAC opponents, the Rockets will host Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. Road games will be at Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Miami.

Toledo, the MAC’s West Division champion in 2022, defeated East Division champion Ohio, 17-7, in the MAC Championship Game at Ford Field in Detroit. The Rockets went on to defeat Liberty in the Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl on their way to a 9-5 record.

Head Coach Jason Candle’s Rockets return seven All-MAC players from last year’s team, including junior quarterback Dequan Finn and All-American cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.
