The University of Toledo Department of Mathematics and Statistics will welcome a guest lecturer, Dr. William M. Goldman of the University of Maryland, to present the Spring 2026 Shoemaker Lecture Series beginning Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Goldman is an internationally recognized mathematician whose work explores the intersection of geometry, topology and dynamics. He is a professor of mathematics and co-founder of the Experimental Geometry Lab at the University of Maryland, a former editor-in-chief of the journal Geometriae Dedicata and an American Mathematical Society Fellow.

Dr. William M. Goldman is a professor of mathematics and co-founder of the Experimental Geometry Lab at the University of Maryland.
Goldman will apply geometric principles to curved and other specialized spaces known as manifolds in three free, public lectures at UToledo. The first is geared toward a general audience of non-mathematicians:
• “Geometries on Manifolds” from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Savage & Associates Business Complex Room 1140;
• “Geometries on Manifolds II” from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in University Hall Room 4410; and
• “Geometries on Manifolds III” from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in University Hall Room 4010.
The Shoemaker Lecture Series, supported by the Richard Shoemaker Fund and presented each semester by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, invites prominent mathematicians from around the world to speak on their areas of expertise.
Visitor parking on campus requires payment through the ParkMobile app, a parking meter or a daily permit via ParkUToledo. Visit the ParkUToledo website for more information.
