Seven UT student-athletes recently were named to the 2012 Academic All-Mid-American Conference football team.
UT had the most honorees in the league, followed by Northern Illinois with six.
It is the most Academic All-MAC selections the Rockets have had in a season, surpassing the 1995 squad that had six honorees.
The seven honorees were sophomore placekicker Jeremiah Detmer, junior center Zac Kerin, senior offensive lineman A.J. Lindeman, sophomore offensive lineman Greg Mancz, senior linebacker Dan Molls, senior defensive lineman Ben Pike and junior long snapper Matt Wall.
Senior safety Mark Singer received honorable mention honors.
Molls, who made Academic All-MAC for the third time in his career, previously was named to the first-team Academic All-America team. Kerin also made Academic All-MAC for the second time.
“It’s a great honor for us to lead the league in Academic All-MAC honorees,” said Head Coach Matt Campbell. “I’m extremely proud of the student-athletes who made the Academic All-MAC team, and proud of all the young men in our program who are working very hard in the classroom.
“Our goal is for our players to achieve excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community, and we feel they are definitely committed to achieving that goal,” Campbell said.
