The University of Toledo continues to move up the ranks of top online programs in the United States.

U.S. News & World Report released its list of 2024 Best Online Programs on Wednesday, Feb. 7, putting UToledo in the top third of ranked online bachelor’s degree programs at No. 115. That’s a jump from No. 150 in 2023.

U.S. News & World Report also ranks several individual online programs, and UToledo again is ranked in each category in which it offers an undergraduate or graduate degree.

In the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, online bachelor’s degree programs in business ranked ahead of nearly three-quarters of ranked programs at No. 50, an increase from No. 58 in 2023. Its online master’s degree program in business administration ranked ahead of more than two-thirds of ranked programs at No. 112, an increase from No. 185 in 2023.

UToledo’s online bachelor’s degree programs for veterans also improved in rank, rising to No. 65 from No. 79 in 2023.

Finally, the Judith Herb College of Education’s master’s in education degree programs ranked ahead of nearly two-thirds of ranked programs at No. 108 and the College of Engineering’s master’s in engineering degree programs ranked ahead of nearly half of ranked programs at No. 57.

U.S. News rankings are determined based on a variety of criteria, such as student engagement and faculty credentials. Specific to online programs are factors like services offered remotely, available technologies and course delivery.

UToledo is also featured on Newsweek’s list of America’s Top Online Colleges 2024, ranking No. 129 out of 200 total institutions. UToledo moved up from its No. 169 ranking in 2023.

This list is curated by Newsweek and Statista Inc., which surveyed more than 9,000 individuals on the institutions they used to obtain an online degree or attend an online course according to six metrics: organization, support, price, reputation, success and practical relevance. Respondents also rated how satisfied they were with the organization and to what extent they would recommend it to others.

Survey responses and additional institutional indicators contributed to a final score and ranking.

“UToledo is proud to be recognized among the top online colleges in the United States,” said Dr. Barbara Kopp Miller, associate vice provost for UToledo Online. “Our flexible, affordable and high-quality programs make higher education goals attainable for a wide variety of students, whether they’re seeking undergraduate certificates or doctoral degrees.”

UToledo offers more than 50 online degrees and certificates, including a new master’s degree program in Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design, with courses taught by the same world-class faculty who teach on-campus students. UToledo has 94 online courses that are certified by Quality Matters, indicating nationally recognized standards for structure, design and delivery, placing the University among the top higher education institutions in the country offering QM-certified courses.
