In 1917, during the height of World War I, these UToledo students took a “Ladies’ Automobile Mechanics” class.
As millions of men joined the war effort, women took their places in manufacturing and agricultural positions on the home front, and provided support on the front lines as nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, translators and, on occasion, as soldiers.
