Dr. Melissa Gregory, senior associate dean and professor of English, has been named interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters.

Gregory’s appointment follows the resignation of Dr. Charlene Gilbert, who accepted a new opportunity at Ohio State University as Senior Vice Provost of Student Academic Excellence.

“I want to thank Dr. Gilbert for her leadership of the College of Arts and Letters for the past five years and her commitment to the success of many Rocket students as a dean and faculty member,” Bjorkman said. “We are fortunate to have a strong associate dean in Dr. Gregory to step up to lead the college during this period of transition and maintain our positive momentum.”

Specializing in nineteenth-century British literature, Gregory joined the UToledo faculty in 2002. She has served as an associate dean since 2018 and led initiatives to increase student participation in undergraduate research, retain high achieving students and elevate the visibility and reputation of liberal arts and humanities.
