Edward Davenport, a junior in music education, plays a jazz riff along with jazz pianist Dr. Alton Merrell during his master class for students Wednesday afternoon in the UToledo Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. A music educator and composer, Merrell was the guest artist for the 2023 Art Tatum Celebration Concert Wednesday evening.
During his master class, Dr. Alton Merrell also performed with UToledo faculty: senior lecturer Norm Damschroder on double bass, associate professor Olman Piedra on percussion, and associate lecturer Jay Weik on guitar, who is not pictured.
