New collective bargaining agreements with the union that represents faculty members at The University of Toledo were approved Wednesday by the Board of Trustees.

The successor contracts with the UToledo chapters of the American Association of University Professors for tenure and tenure-track faculty and for lecturers are effective July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024, and include a 2% wage increase for eligible employees in the 2023-24 academic year.

The union ratified the agreements in January. The chapter that covers the tenure and tenure-track faculty has 383 members and the unit that covers lecturers has 138 members.

In other business, trustees approved a pharmaceutical agreement with a new supplier.

The University sought competitive best pricing proposals from the major distributors for hospitals across the country and selected Amerisource Bergen to provide pharmaceuticals to inpatients, outpatients, retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy and 340B contract pharmacy patients. The five-year agreement provides The University of Toledo Medical Center with improved discounts and rebate opportunities and will allow the hospital to expand its specialty pharmacy payer network.

The Board also approved the conveyance of eight parcels of property near the intersection of North Byrne Road and Dorr Street to the UToledo Foundation Real Estate Corp. No immediate plans for the property were announced, but the University noted that it remains committed to enhancing the student experience through strategic partnerships designed to transform and revitalize areas on and adjacent to Main Campus.

A new member of the UToledo Health Board was appointed. As part of the creation of the UToledo Health governance structure, there are up to seven public members who can serve on the board. Trustees approved for Dr. Damian P. “Pat” Aglaia, chief clinical officer and senior medical director advanced diagnostics and women’s health for Quest Diagnostics, to serve a three-year term.

Lastly, trustees approved two faculty members in the College of Arts and Letters to be named Distinguished University Professors and sabbatical leaves for 28 faculty members. The newest Distinguished University Professors recognized for their exemplary teaching, research, scholarship and professional service are Dr. Michael Boyd, professor of piano, and Dr. Jon Elhai, professor of psychology.
