Over the next several months, most University of Toledo Physicians clinics will become UTMC clinics.
UToledo Health is undergoing a clinic alignment process to advance the partnership between the University of Toledo Medical Center and University of Toledo Physicians and improve the patient experience across UToledo’s clinical enterprise.
“This clinic alignment is an important step for UToledo Health as we continue to build upon the positive momentum we’re seeing from bringing closer together our clinical operations to better serve our community,” said Dr. Charles “Chuck” Callahan, executive vice president for health affairs. “This process is going to allow for increased collaboration among our providers and improved clinic performance and outcomes, but most importantly it will expand access for our patients and improve their experience.”
The clinic alignment plan was approved Wednesday by the UToledo Board of Trustees.
The realignment involves the operations of the clinics. Patients will continue seeing their trusted physicians and care teams in the same physical locations.
UToledo Health also is working toward more simplified and improved access to care, including an improved scheduling experience for patients as part of this process.
Callahan said the clinic alignment will reduce barriers and advance communication among UToledo Health staff and providers, standardize and streamline clinic operations, and increase the efficiency of UToledo’s healthcare enterprise.
“As the regional force powering opportunities to learn, care, work and play, the patient experience is key in the care component of our UToledo vision,” UToledo Interim President Matt Schroeder said. “This new structure, which mirrors that of other leading healthcare systems, is going to make us a stronger organization that is better equipped to provide the high level of care that every one of our patients deserves.”
Regency Medical Center, Great Lakes Vascular Institute, Maumee Cardiology and Rocket Pediatrics in Waterville are the first UTP operated clinics that are expected to transition to UTMC by the end of this year. Leadership will be working directly in the coming months with the UTP employees impacted who will join UTMC as part of this process.
