For this Throwback Thursday, we are revisiting Dec. 1, 1976, when the Toledo men’s basketball team christened Centennial Hall (since renamed Savage Arena) with one of the greatest upsets in program history. The Rockets welcomed Bobby Knight’s Indiana University Hoosiers — the defending national champions who were riding a massive 33-game winning streak — and stunned them with a thrilling 59-57 victory. As our 2026 Rockets prepare to make some noise at the MAC basketball tournament next week, we remember the historic magic on our home court from a half-century ago.
The UT men's basketball team hosted Indiana University in the first-ever game in the brand new Centennial Hall, December 1976.
