Rockets Land in Knoxville for NCAA Tournament

The Toledo women’s basketball team arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee, the afternoon of Thursday, March 16, ahead of its first-round NCAA Tournament matchup vs. Iowa State on Saturday, March 18.

Today – Friday, March 17 – the Rockets will hold their lone practice at Thompson-Boling Arena ahead of their first-round contest vs. the Cyclones. Toledo head coach Tricia Cullop and select players will meet with the media prior to practice.

The Toledo women’s basketball team arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Thursday afternoon, ahead of its first-round NCAA Tournament matchup vs. Iowa State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The No. 12 seed Rockets (28-4) will face No. 5 seed Iowa State (22-9) in the first round at Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee. The game will tip off at approximately 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2, 30 minutes following the conclusion of the 1 p.m. game between No. 4 seed Tennessee and No. 13 seed Saint Louis.

Toledo, which has won a school record-tying 16 straight games, is making its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and the first since 2017. UToledo earned its spot in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Bowling Green, 73-58, in the MAC Tournament Championship Game last Saturday, March 11. The Rockets opened the MAC Tournament with a 75-74 overtime win vs. Buffalo in the quarterfinals and defeated Kent State in the semifinals by a score of 65-58.

Senior guard Quinesha Lockett was named MAC Tournament MVP after averaging a team-best 14.7 PPG. Junior forward Sammi Mikonowicz and sophomore forward Jessica Cook were also named to the MAC All-Tournament team.

•  Locally, The Blarney Irish Pub, located at 601 Monroe St., is hosting Toledo’s Official NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament First Round Watch Party beginning at 3 p.m. The watch party will feature prizes and food and drink specials for fans to enjoy. With it being St. Patrick’s Day weekend, fans are encouraged to arrive early.

•  In Knoxville, The University of Toledo Alumni Association is hosting a pregame party before the game at Calhoun’s on the River, 400 Neyland Dr. in Knoxville. Admission to the pregame party at Calhoun’s is $20 for UToledo Alumni Association members and $27 for non-members and includes an all-you-can-eat buffet and a cash bar. Registration is required.
