The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences will host its annual Match Day celebration on Friday, March 20, at the Stranahan Theater.
The annual event is a milestone for fourth-year medical students as they learn which residency program they have been matched into.

At Match Day 2025, of the 167 fourth-year students who received their match, 19 matched into UToledo’s residency program, and 71 others matched with programs in Ohio.
Every year, both students and residency programs submit their rank order lists, and the National Resident Matching Program pairs applicants with programs. The matches are sealed in an envelope and are made available to open at noon on Match Day.
“Match Day is a moment filled with anticipation, pride, and celebration,” said Dr. Imran Ali, dean of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. “After years of rigorous study and clinical training as part of our innovative curriculum, our students finally learn where they will continue their journey as physicians. It’s a powerful moment not only for them, but for the faculty, families and friends who have supported them along the way. It’s also a reminder of the important role they will soon play in caring for patients and strengthening the health of our communities.”
This year, more than 150 fourth-year medical students will participate in the invitation-only event beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Last year, 167 fourth-year students were matched with residency programs across 28 states. Nineteen students matched into UToledo’s residency program, and another 71 matched with programs in Ohio. Other common areas were 19 students matching with programs in Michigan and 14 in Illinois.
Depending on program specialization, these residencies can last from three to seven years.
For any students who are not matched with a program on their rank order, Student Affairs works closely with those students to help them find an open residency position or determine their next steps through the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).
