The University of Toledo’s Office of Marketing and Communications received a Gold Addy from the Toledo American Advertising Federation for its desk-sized replica of the University’s iconic Bell Tower.

The first-place finish was in the sales and marketing category.

The 3D Tower is a celebration of UToledo and its sesquicentennial designed to attract attention and pique interest at events including student recruitment, admissions and alumni.

Made of heavy card stock, the standout display is easy to assemble, painted in UToledo’s colors, midnight blue and gold, and provides bullet-point information about the University and the city of Toledo.

“Our partners in Enrollment were looking for something engaging to catch people’s eyes at crowded college fairs and draw them to the UToledo table,” said Paula Ashley, who works in UToledo’s Office of Marketing and Communications and supports marketing projects for the Division of Enrollment.

“The University Hall Bell Tower is our University’s most significant architectural feature, and we use photos of it on many of our marketing tools — so the tower was a natural choice.”

A pair of UToledo projects and a student also were recognized with awards, including:

•  A Silver Addy in the film, video and sound category for the RISE Trailer for University of Toledo Wrestling produced by LoudKid Films;

•  A Bronze Addy in the corporate social responsibility and public service category for the University Counseling Center PSA, written and directed by Dr. Matt Foss, an associate professor of theatre and film at UToledo, and produced by Madhouse; and,

•  Alyn Martinez, a junior in the communication studies program, who received an Addy in the most promising multicultural student category.

UToledo’s gold award-winning entry at the local level will automatically be entered into the district contest as the next step in the national American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) competition, which is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries every year in local American Advertising Federation Club competitions.
