Congratulations to Toledo women’s and men’s basketball for their historic seasons.
Both teams tied school records for wins, both teams won the MAC championship titles and both teams were powered by MAC players of the year.
• Won their second-consecutive outright Mid-American Conference regular-season title;
• Won the 2023 MAC Tournament title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament;
• As a 12th seed in the first round of the NCAA tourney, upset No. 5 seed Iowa State, 80-73;
• Advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996 and just the fourth time ever;
• Tied a school record with 29 wins and set a school record with a 17-game winning streak;
• Ranked No. 24 in the nation and led the MAC in home attendance for the 33rd consecutive season; and
• Head Coach Tricia Cullop was named MAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career.
The men’s team:
• Won their third-straight outright MAC regular-season title, the first time any current MAC school has achieved this feat;
• Tied a school record with 27 wins and set a school record with a 17-game winning streak;
• Was No. 1 in the MAC in attendance;
• Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk was named MAC Coach of the Year; and
• Senior forward JT Shumate named Academic All-American for the second-consecutive year.
