The University of Toledo Student Government is conducting debates for the 2023-2024 offices of vice president and president.

Vice-presidential candidates Tanner Schultz, a junior biology student, and Christina Charley, a junior pre-nursing student, will debate from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 27, and presidential candidates Justin Rose, a junior psychology student, and Lucas Will, a dual-major Spanish and economics student, will debate from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.

Both debates are in the Thompson Student Union Ingman Room and complimentary refreshments will be available.

The University of Toledo Student Government is an organization of student leaders elected by their peers to represent the voice of all students throughout the University. Members of Student Government serve on various committees across the University to ensure that student voices are considered and that decisions are being made from a student-centered lens.

“Student Government is a crucial piece of any college campus,” said Colleen Palmer, student body president. “The organization acts as the ultimate liaison between students and the administration. Students have the ability to voice their concerns about what needs to be changed and/or supported through the University’s resources.

“It’s important that you involve yourself within the election process to make the most informed decision on who you want to see representing you. The next president and vice president of the student body serve as the primary advocate for all students and to make sure there is student opinion where important decisions are being made. If you want to be able to represent the student body and work closely with administration, getting involved in the election process is the first step.”

The election will take place via Invonet from Monday, April 3, through Tuesday, April 11. To vote, students must log in to their Invonet account and follow the onscreen prompt’s instructions.

“Being a member of Student Government is a major responsibility that entails representing more than 14,000 student voices every day and working on major initiatives to better the lives and experiences for students campus-wide,” said Alex Zernechel, associate director for student involvement and fraternity and sorority life.

“We encourage all students to participate in the election of the student body president and vice president, along with elected senators.”
