Faculty members in The University of Toledo’s Cell Architecture and Dynamics (CAD) Area of Excellence group are hosting an inaugural in-person and virtual summit to showcase cutting-edge research in cell biology and translational cell biology on Friday, April 1.

The main objective of the summit is to foster collaborations between different departments and colleges across the University of Toledo and the region.

Dr. Martin Chalfie, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2008, will be the keynote speaker.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Martin Chalfie, whose development of green fluorescent protein technology revolutionized the field of cell biology,” said Dr. Tomer Avidor-Reiss, a professor of biological sciences at UToledo. “We have organized an action-driven schedule aimed at showcasing the research achievements of scientists at The University of Toledo and connecting with other innovative researchers.”

 Additional speakers include:

•  Dr. Don Cleveland, member of the National Academy of Sciences, and chair of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California San Diego;

•  Dr. Kristen Verhey, professor of cell and developmental biology and professor of biophysics at University of Michigan; and

•  Dr. Gregory Pazour, professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and fellow of the American Society for Cell Biology.

The symposium will feature local speakers, interactive sessions and student posters.

The hybrid event runs 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Field House Room 2100 and will be streaming online via Webex. Registration is required.
